A gendarmerie investigation was opened on 13 February to find the person (s) responsible for the desecration of the cemetery of Osseja, a municipality in Cerdagne located near the Spanish border. The events are said to have occurred in the cemetery between Tuesday, February 11 in the evening and Wednesday afternoon.In the enclosure, vases were found broken, plates torn off and crosses turned upside down. In all, around fifty graves, out of the 400 in the cemetery, have been vandalized.
The town hall complained
“This is the oldest part that was targeted, says mayor Roger Ciurana, disgusted. I feel deep disgust, I don’t understand how people can go after a sacred place. It’s a sad sight“A complaint has been filed by the mayor and the gendarmerie investigation is underway to try to identify the perpetrator (s).Families whose graves have been damaged can come to the town hall to fill out a complaint form.
