A year ago, 15-year-old Rebecca disappeared from Berlin without a trace – but her mother still doesn’t believe in her daughter’s death.
“Of course she can be dead too, but I don’t have that feeling,” she told RTL. Rebecca was probably kidnapped.
“It’s been a year now, nothing has been found. And I think she’s really locked up. ”
The family continues to suffer from the loss and mourn every day. “I could deal with death, but the uncertainty is terrible.”
The family does not yet believe that Rebeccas brother-in-law, whom the police suspect, has anything to do with her disappearance. Looking at her husband, the sister said: “Even if the police were firmly convinced of this, it was never an issue for us. And is not up for debate. ”
The mysterious disappearance and the investigation
Rebecca disappeared on February 18, 2019. She was last seen at her sister’s house in Berlin’s NeukOlln district. The police quickly assumed a murder and suspected the sister’s husband.

He was arrested and later released. Despite weeks of intensive search, the police found no trace of Rebecca or her body.
The spokesman for the public prosecutor, Martin Steltner, said at RTL about the brother-in-law: “Nothing has been added. That is why the urgent suspicion is no longer present. “Urgent suspicion is the prerequisite for an arrest warrant and pre-trial detention.
But Steltner continued to emphasize: “The man is still suspected, there are no other suspects at the moment. But that does not mean that we only investigate in one direction. On the contrary, we naturally determine how it is our duty in all directions. ”
