The obligation to pay in Germany has only been active since the turn of the year – despite this, both customers and sellers are already moaning at the sheer mass of actually avoidable paper waste.
While the new law in Germany forces retailers to issue the sales slip, a neighbor of Germany may soon go the opposite way: A draft law in France states that a systematic ban on purchases of less than 10 euros should be introduced from September 1, 2020. Customers would only receive a receipt for smaller purchases if they specifically asked for it. However, the draft law has not yet been adopted.
But that’s not all: the draft also provides that from January 1, 2021 the receipt ban will be introduced for all amounts under 20 euros and a year later for everything under 30 euros.
